Amtrak is putting over 200 new kiosks at over 150 stations. Less touch is required for most in-station transactions thanks to the new kiosks’ enhanced user interface.

Touch, card swipe, barcode scan, or headset insertion may activate the technology. Travelers may now pick a departure station and a seat on trains that provide reserved seats. The option to collect contactless payments and email tickets to customers will be added in the future.

This is a great addition that will help “desi” travelers travel easily with less interaction and on a self-service model.

The kiosks are completely ADA compliant, including audio instructions for those with restricted vision and a 48-inch height for wheelchair users.

The Amtrak kiosks will be installed at Washington Union Station, Wilmington’s Joseph R. Biden Jr. Railroad Station, and New York’s Moynihan Train Hall beginning in the autumn of 2021.
