The last thing we wanted was yet another reason not to fly. Looks like we have it.

Come April, 2021 and taking a domestic and international flight from India will cost you more than in 2020.

Reason? Air Security Fee (ASF) becomes applicable from April 1st, 2021 in India.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decided to hike the air security fee (ASF) from April 1, 2021.

The ASF fee increase for domestic air passengers is Rs 40, and for international air passengers is Rs 114.38.

What does this mean?

You will see an increase in air ticket prices to destinations originating from India. That would include US destinations from India.

Not all passengers get to pay the ASF fee though. Some passengers are exempted from paying ASF including children under the age of two years, diplomatic passport holders, airline crew on duty, people travelling on official duty on aircraft operated by Indian Air Force, people on UN peacekeeping mission duty, passengers in transit, transfer, deporting an airport due to involuntary rerouting.

For the rest of us, the price is only going up.

According to the RBI guidelines, an individual can transfer a maximum of US$2,50,000 from India to another country within one year. The high transfer limit may give you an idea…

According to the RBI guidelines, an individual can transfer a maximum of US$2,50,000 from India to another country within one year. The high transfer limit may give you an idea that the regulations for bringing money to the US are lenient, although in reality, they are not. In fact, the Liberalized Reporting Scheme (LRS) has been revised by the RBI to tighten the reporting norms for such outward remittances.

For most Indians, sending money to the United States can be a highly complicated task. So, if you are looking for ways to transfer money to America, here are some methods that might prove useful.

Wire Transfer

This method is also known as SWIFT (Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication) transfer. As the name implies, SWIFT is the fastest offline mode of money transfer through Indian banks. For this:

Visit your bank branch and fill up the SWIFT transfer form. Details that need to be provided in the form include the name of the beneficiary, account number, address of bank, and SWIFT code.

After submission of this form, money will be debited from the source account and get credited to the beneficiary’s account within 72 hours.

Indian banks that provide SWIFT facility are Axis Bank, PNB, Yes Bank, HDFC Bank, City Union Bank, Federal Bank Limited, Indian Bank, Union Bank of India and IndusInd Bank, Bank of India and ICICI Bank.

PayPal Transfer

This is a very popular and simple method of transfer funds around the world. Just create a PayPal account and link your bank account to it. Your email address will be your PayPal account number. You can now log into your PayPal account and send money to a US-based PayPal account via the “Send Money” option. The exchange rates will depend on the day the transfer is made.

Note: There have been some recent changes in the PayPal usage regulations by the RBI. So, check with PayPal customer care before you carry out any transaction.

Demand Draft

The method to transfer money through demand draft is the slowest and should be chosen as the last resort. To use this facility, you need to visit your bank branch and get a demand draft made of the amount that is to be transferred. This demand draft will be made in US dollars and the equivalent Indian rupees will be debited from your account. Bank charges for making the draft range between ₹200 and ₹600. This draft will be sent via post and will reach the recipient in 7 to 10 working days.

Additionally, you will need to bear the complete postal charges and there is no tracking facility available for this service.

For Travelers: Carry Cash on your Flight

If you are an Indian traveling to the US and wish to bring some money along, here is something that you should know.

The RBI allows Indian residents to carry a maximum amount of ₹25,000 per person while traveling abroad.

For persons other than Indian residents, the entire unspent amount brought into India by them can be taken out of India.

While there are a number of ways to transfer money to the US, you should pick the one that suits your requirement. The method that you feel provides safe and quick transfer of your hard-earned money should be given priority over others.

City attractions: Public parks, historic sites, and outdoor events can provide great experiences without costing a dime.

Stay Connected Affordably

Avoid high roaming charges by:

Local SIM cards: Buy a local SIM card for data and calls, available at most airports and convenience stores.

Wi-Fi: Use free Wi-Fi available at cafes, hotels, and public spaces.

Watch Your Budget

Keep track of your expenses to avoid overspending:

Budget apps: Use apps like Mint or Trail Wallet to monitor your spending.

Cash: Carry cash for small purchases to avoid credit card fees.

Set a daily budget: Plan how much you can spend each day and stick to it.

Planning a trip from India to the United States? Get ready for a bit of paperwork! From visa applications to travel insurance, there are several forms you’ll need to handle.

Here’s your guide to navigating this paperwork maze and ensuring a smooth journey.

1. Visa Forms

The U.S. issues two main types of visas: immigrant and non-immigrant. Most travelers from India will need a non-immigrant visa. Here’s a quick overview of the main types:

1.1 Tourist Visa (B2)

What It Is: A multiple-entry visa for tourism.

Validity: Up to 10 years.

Processing Time: 3 to 4 business days post-appointment.

Fee: ₹10,800.

1.2 Student Visa (F-1/M-1)

1.4 General Application Form

For detailed information on visa categories, visit the US Visa Directory.

2. Travel Insurance Forms

Travel insurance is a must for international trips. Given the high costs in the U.S., it’s wise to have coverage for medical emergencies, baggage delays, and lost passports. Choose a plan based on your age, purpose of travel, and frequency.

2.1 Student Travel Insurance

Features: Minimal paperwork, no medical tests required.

2.2 Senior Citizen Travel Insurance

Features: Designed for travelers above 60. Cashless hospitalization in the U.S., coverage for pre-existing conditions (up to age 70).

Benefits: Includes coverage for pre-existing conditions, free international SIM card, and more.

3. Additional Tips

Visa Interview: Prepare thoroughly. Review common questions and be ready to discuss your travel plans.

Documents: Ensure you have all required documents in order before your appointment.

Conclusion

Filling out forms might seem like a hassle, but it’s crucial for a smooth entry into the U.S. With the right paperwork, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying your American adventure.

So, get your forms sorted, prepare for your visa interview, and start dreaming about your journey!

Planning a trip to the USA? Whether you’re going for a vacation, work, or to visit family, packing and preparing for your journey can feel like a daunting task.

But don’t worry—I’ve got you covered with this ultimate USA travel checklist to ensure you’re well-prepared and stress-free!

Here’s everything you need to carry and do before stepping onto that plane. Let’s dive right in.

1. Travel Documents

This is your number one priority. If you forget these, you’re not boarding that flight, period.

Valid Passport
Your passport should have at least six months validity beyond your intended stay. This is a crucial rule many people overlook.

U.S. Visa
Make sure your visa is approved and stamped in your passport before departure. If you’re eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP), make sure to apply for ESTA.

Flight Tickets
Have both physical and digital copies of your tickets. If possible, download your boarding pass in advance.

Hotel Reservations
Print your hotel confirmation or save it in an easily accessible place on your phone.

Travel Insurance
It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
