New Zealand visa for US citizens – Requirements

All U.S. citizens traveling to New Zealand on a temporary basis, including for tourism, business, study, or work, must obtain a visa or an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) prior to arrival.

The type of visa or ETA required will depend on the purpose and duration of your stay. If you are unsure which type of visa or ETA you need, you can use the Visa Wizard on the Immigration New Zealand website to help you determine which one is right for you.

If you are traveling to New Zealand for tourism or business purposes, you may be eligible to apply for an ETA online through the Immigration New Zealand website. An ETA is valid for multiple entries to New Zealand for a period of up to two years from the date of issue, and allows you to stay in the country for a maximum of three months at a time.

If you are traveling to New Zealand for a purpose that is not covered by the ETA, such as study or work, you will need to apply for a visa through the New Zealand embassy or consulate nearest you. For a list of New Zealand embassies and consulates around the world, please visit the Immigration New Zealand website.

When applying for a visa or ETA, you will need to provide evidence of your travel plans, such as a return ticket or onward ticket, as well as evidence of sufficient funds to support your stay. You may also be required to provide fingerprints and a photograph as part of the application process.

Once your application has been approved, you will receive a confirmation email from Immigration New Zealand. You must print out this email and bring it with you when you travel to New Zealand, as you will need to present it to immigration officials upon arrival

Helpful Tip

When traveling to USA, travel insurance is much recommended.

Two great plans are, Atlas America and Safe Travels USA.

However there are other choices like these, as well.

What is an ETA?

An ETA is an electronic travel authority that allows citizens of certain countries to enter New Zealand for tourism or business purposes. The ETA replaces the need for a visa for stays of up to three months.

ETA-eligible citizens can apply for an ETA online or through a travel agent. The ETA costs NZD$12 and is valid for two years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

Once an ETA has been granted, travelers can enter New Zealand as many times as they like within the validity period. Each stay can be up to three months.

How long can US citizens stay in New Zealand Without a Visa

According to the Immigration New Zealand website, as of October 2019, US citizens can travel to New Zealand without a visa for up to 90 days.

How long is the ETA valid?

The New Zealand ETA for US citizens is valid for two years from the date of issuance, or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

How long does it take to apply for a New Zealand ETA?

It takes about 10 minutes to apply for a New Zealand ETA online. You will need to provide your personal details, passport information, and travel plans. You will also need to pay the application fee.

How can I apply for a New Zealand ETA?

The first step is to visit the New Zealand Immigration website and begin the online application process.

You will need to provide your personal information, passport details, and contact information.

Once you have completed the online application, you will need to pay the application fee and submit your passport for processing.

The entire process can take up to 72 hours, but most applications are processed within 24 hours.

Do I need to get an ETA for my kids too?

Yes, children are required to apply for a visa in order to visit New Zealand.

If you are traveling with children, you will need to complete the visa application form for them. The application process for children is the same as for adults—you will need to complete the ETA application form, pay the visa fee, and schedule an appointment. A biological parent or legal guardian should attend the interview.

What is the ETA fee?

Standard Processing Time: 24 hours – USD $83.99. · Rush Processing Time: 4 hours – USD $126.99.

Summary

The New Zealand ETA application process is very simple and straightforward for US citizens.

The entire process can be completed online in just a few minutes, and once approved, the ETA is valid for multiple entries into New Zealand for a period of two years.

There is no need to apply for a new ETA each time you travel to New Zealand within that two-year period.

All the best!
